Chelmsford Center

As you steer toward the center
brakelights from the lined up cars
clarify with cheerful red,
dispelling ghostly mists and clouds;
as if the civilizing town
has banished all the boogiemen
who just beset you in the night,
alone upon a lonely route,
battling for the sight of lanes
obscured as much by fear as fog.
